Howl

I chose to animate an excerpt of Allen Ginsberg's poem Howl. The Excerpt is from Ginsberg's reading of Howl at the Big Table Chicago Reading in 1959. I read this poem in college, years ago and it still sticks with me today. At first I had planned on animating the most recognizable lines of the beginning, which starts out with, "I saw the best minds of my generation destroyed by madness, starving hysterical naked..."

Then I decide to hunt for a less frequently quoted section. I decided upon,

" who demanded sanity trials accusing the radio of hypnotism & were left with their insanity & their hands & a hung jury, who threw potato salad at CCNY lecturers on Dadaism and subsequently presented themselves on the granite steps of the madhouse with shaven heads and harlequin speech of suicide, demanding instantaneous lobotomy, and who were given instead the concrete void of insulin Metrazol electricity hydrotherapy psychotherapy occupational therapy pingpong & amnesia."

This poem is a wild ride through the rebellious mind of Allen Ginsberg.
